Don Askew spent 35 years with PPG Automotive Refinish, from 1969 until retiring in 2004, and focused much of his volunteer work on collision industry training. He served about seven years on the I-CAR Education Foundation board of trustees, chairing it in fiscal 2002 and 2003, and was later named chairman emeritus; the foundation credited him with helping launch its PACE+ST3 entry-level technician training program. He also served on boards and committees of the Automotive Management Institute, the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association, the VICA Youth Development Foundation, I-CAR, the National Auto Body Council, CIC, SCRS and ASE. He received AMI’s Annual Recognition Award in 1994 and after retiring formed Askew Enterprises.
